About Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah is the adventure emirate of the United Arab Emirates — a hidden gem that combines the spectacular desert landscape and the warm sea of the Persian Gulf with the rugged Hajar Mountains, without the hustle and artificial extravagance of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As the northernmost of the seven emirates, RAK offers authentic Arab culture, unspoiled nature, and world-class adventure. Jebel Jais, at 1,934 meters, is the highest mountain in the UAE: At its summit is the longest zipline in the world (Jais Flight, 2.83 km at speeds of up to 150 km/h), while hiking trails lead through the rugged limestone formations, and frost is even possible in winter — a surreal contrast to the desert below. The old town of Ras Al Khaimah, with the National Museum in the historic fort, tells 7,000 years of settlement history: from the Bronze Age through Persian rule to the pirates of the coast, who once gave the emirate the name Pirate Coast. Dhayah Fort, a mud fortress on a hill, offers panoramic views over date palm groves and the sea. The coast of RAK stretches over 64 kilometers with expansive sandy beaches that are far less crowded than those in Dubai. Luxury resorts like the Waldorf Astoria and Rixos are located directly on the beach, while the offshore island of Al Marjan offers its own microcosm of hotels and restaurants.
