Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach★
Beach Feeling at the Arctic Circle
It sounds absurd, but Reykjavík has a beach with warm water. At Nauthólsvík, a small bay south of the Perlan, a geothermal pool has been created, heated with hot water to a pleasant 15–19°C (in summer). There is also an artificial sandy beach with imported yellow sand, hot pots (38–40°C) at the edge, and a changing house.
On sunny summer days (yes, they exist!), Icelanders are here in swimwear, playing volleyball, and enjoying the midnight sun — a surreal image at 64° North. In winter, the hardy come for ice swimming in the icy sea and warm up afterward in the hot pots.
