Regions at a Glance

Japan stretches over 3,000 kilometers from north to south — from subarctic snow landscapes to subtropical coral islands. Five main regions, five different worlds:

🏙️ Tokyo & Kanto

For whom: Everyone — Tokyo is a must on any Japan trip
The largest metropolitan area in the world (38 million inhabitants) is a fascinating juxtaposition of skyscrapers and shrines, Harajuku fashion and Zen gardens, Michelin-starred restaurants and 100-yen sushi. Plan at least 4–5 days.

⛩️ Kyoto, Nara & Kansai

For whom: Culture lovers, history fans, gourmets
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over 1,000 years and has 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, over 2,000 temples and shrines, and the vibrant Geisha tradition in Gion. Nara offers tame deer and the massive Tōdai-ji. Osaka is the street food capital.

🏯 Osaka & Kansai

For whom: Foodies, families, history fans
Osaka is loud, hearty, and food-obsessed. Kobe provides the world's most famous beef, Himeji has Japan's most beautiful castle, and Kōya-san offers overnight stays in Buddhist monasteries.

🗻 Mount Fuji & Central Japan

For whom: Nature lovers, hikers, culture travelers
The iconic Fuji dominates the region. Hakone offers onsen with Fuji views, Kamakura the Great Buddha, and the Japanese Alps (Takayama, Shirakawa-gō) showcase a picture-book Japan.

🌺 South Japan & Okinawa

For whom: History, beaches, nature
Hiroshima and Nagasaki are moving peace cities. Miyajima has the famous floating torii. Okinawa offers subtropical beaches, and Yakushima ancient cedar forests from the Jōmon period.
