Overview of City Districts

Vienna is divided into 23 districts. For tourists, the inner districts are particularly relevant:

Inner City (1st District)

For whom: First-time visitors, culture lovers, strollers
The historic center within the Ringstraße: St. Stephen's Cathedral, Hofburg, Graben, Kohlmarkt, Albertina, and the legendary coffeehouses. Compact, pedestrian-friendly, and architecturally overwhelming.

Museumsquartier & Naschmarkt (6th/7th District)

For whom: Art fans, foodies, trendsetters
The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the largest cultural complexes in the world — Leopold Museum, mumok, Kunsthalle. The adjacent Naschmarkt is Vienna's culinary heart: 120 stands with spices, cheese, falafel, and wine. The neighboring districts Neubau and Mariahilf are Vienna's trendy quarters.

Schönbrunn Palace (13th District)

For whom: History enthusiasts, families, garden lovers
The imperial summer residence with Baroque garden, Gloriette, zoo, and palm house. A half-day excursion not to be missed.

Prater & Donaustadt (2nd District)

For whom: Families, nature lovers, adventurers
The Ferris wheel in the Prater (since 1897), the expansive Prater park for jogging and cycling, the Danube Island for swimming in summer, and the Old Danube for boating. Vienna's green lung.
